LEARN TO SEW
Have you experienced long term unemployment, health issues, poverty, abuse or lack of access to appropriate housing? Sew Positive brings people together in a safe environment and gives you the chance to connect with others while exploring your creativity.
Our workshops and courses give you the basic sewing skills you need to be able to make, repair, mend, upcycle and repurpose clothes and textiles. You’ll learn how to sew either by hand or using a machine and make or embellish items like face masks, aprons, seasonal decorations, bunting, cushions and clothes.
Once your sessions are complete, you’ll be given a sewing pack so you can continue your sewing and creating at home. You’ll also have the opportunity to keep in touch with your community.
VOLUNTEER
Volunteers are essential to the running and expansion of Sew Positive. We have a small but brilliant team of volunteers who support us – but we always need more.
Why Volunteer?
It has been shown through various studies that while volunteering helps others, it also helps volunteers’ wellbeing too. Many of our volunteers tell us that they enjoy being part of a community; feel more confident and have increased self-worth.
There are many opportunities to volunteer for Sew Positive, including:
- Helping to deliver our workshops and courses
- Coming to our events
- Supporting our fundraisers
- Making products for us to sell.
If you join Sew Positive as a volunteer, you’ll get full training (where necessary) so that you are comfortable in your role. In return, you have the chance to learn new sewing skills and the opportunity to become part of a supportive and encouraging community. We’re a small charity, so you’ll have a significant impact.
Get Involved
If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. You must be over 18, happy to be DBS checked, and give details of two people who can provide you with a reference. If you’d like to talk anything through, please contact us and we’ll be in touch.
